“On The Sly” is the first single from The Bamboos’ upcoming album, “4”. This track is a serious statement of intent: a piece of music for 2010 that somehow transcends the boundaries of what we know as the ‘Deep Funk’ scene and pushes The Bamboos up into a world all their own, “On The Sly” is The Bamboos crystallized, arrived, their own unique sound fully realized. The B side of this 12” single is “Turn It Up” featuring adored US MC Lyrics Born, a collaboration that sprang from a JJJ FM (Australian national radio) interview in which Lyrics Born stated that the only Australian group he wanted to work with was The Bamboos. A few hurried calls to management across the Pacific and it was all hooked up - and here’s the result: 3½ minutes of party funk with The Bamboos’ heavy drums and super-tight horn section underpinning a mighty vocal take from Berkeley’s finest! Lyrics Born likes this tune so much he is even going to include it on his new solo record, also dropping in 2010. This 12” also includes the instrumentals and a cappella versions of both tracks as a bonus giving you all the more bang for your buck.
