TM Juke (co-writer of Alice Russell material) & Robert Luis (A&R and Co-Owner of Tru-Thoughts) are the joint force which is "me&you".
The duo first collaborated in 2005 to write a one-off track to put in their DJ sets. In the summer of 2006 they were invited to play at Bestival and recorded a couple of tracks especially for their set. After an astounding reaction from the crowd they were inundated with enquiries through MySpace and the Tru Thoughts website so decided to record a full-length album together.
From start to finish the album reaches out; slapping your auditory senses around the face, encapsulating the listener into a head-nodding, toe tapping dance floor stomping trance that won‚ let go until the climax. The album takes you on a journey through an eclectic spectrum of influences from break beat, soul, jazz, dub step, broken beat, reggae, disco and drum and bass.
The first single, a double A side 7" with "Brown Paper Bag" (a reggae cover of the Roni Size/Reprazent d‚n‚b classic) and The Hoop Loop, has received a number of outstanding reviews and reactions as well as support from Rob Da Bank on Radio 1 and Danny Breaks who describes it as a track that will never ever leave his record box.
This is followed by "Sneaker Thief" with its infectious horns and disco, break beat style. Theres even a little nod to Acid House but with Egyptian percussion being tweaked through the filters on "Elephant Takeover"
The album then takes a switch to drum and bass with the Afro influenced ‚"Wouri River" and then into Calypso drum and bass(!) with "Last Night" Look out for heavyweight remixes forthcoming on these tracks by Redeyes (Bingo Beats) and Benny Page (now signed to Shy FXs Soundboy label)
"Ze Zam" is tempo changing electrified Brazilian "Batucada Battle Weapon" and "Got Any" R&B? is slightly noisier but still with that little me&you twist.
"Random Search" blends dub step, reggae bass lines and some Bollywood grooves to make a rolling track. This groove is also the basis for "Space Lizards" the hidden tune (Track 23) which finds Young Max from Dirty Diggers taking on two rappers roles. The one on the phone is a conspiracy fan and Max responds by trying to argue the case that Paul McCartney isn't a lizard!
All of this results in a spectacular musical array of powerfully dynamic tunes set to keep dance floors across the world buzzing, it is an archetypical summer album!
